Why WSMA: The WSMA represents the collective voice of
Washington physicians advocating for excellent, patient-focused care and
maintaining physician leadership in guiding the future of health care. It
brings together clinicians from various specialties and practice
environments, united by a dedication to advocacy, teamwork, and the
pursuit of professional excellence.
Why serve on WSMA’s board: I joined the WSMA board to
help strengthen the voice of physicians in critical policy and leadership
conversations. With the ongoing changes in health care, I see the WSMA as
essential in making sure that decisions at every level, be they
legislative, regulatory, or organizational, are informed by the real-world
experiences and core values of those who provide patient care.
Why should physicians lead: Physicians offer a
distinctive viewpoint shaped by years of scientific training, clinical
judgment, and direct patient care experience. Our work at the bedside
gives us a deep understanding of how systems and policies affect real
people—the patients we serve and the teams we work alongside. When
physicians lead, decisions are informed not only by data and evidence but
also by empathy, ethics, and lived experience.
Physician leadership ensures that initiatives aimed at improving quality,
access, or efficiency remain grounded in what truly matters: the health
and trust of our communities. We are uniquely positioned to bridge the gap
between frontline care and organizational or policy strategy. When
physicians are at the helm, leadership decisions tend to prioritize
access, fairness, and outcomes that sustain both patients and the
professionals who care for them.
How do you help further WSMA’s vision to make Washington state the best
place to practice medicine and receive care:
I focus on fostering physician engagement, organizational alignment, and
leadership development. Through my experience in governance and strategy,
I aim to help build sustainable models of care that support clinician
well-being and patient trust, making Washington a place where both can
thrive.
As health care becomes increasingly complex, I believe the WSMA plays a crucial
role in helping physicians find common purpose and collective strength. My
goal as a board member is to amplify the physician voice in shaping
solutions that balance quality, access, and sustainability. This includes
advancing physician-led governance, supporting innovation in care
delivery, and strengthening the professional environment so that
clinicians feel empowered to do their best work. When we invest in the
health of our profession, we create the conditions for exceptional care
across our state.
Fun fact about you: I love travel and photography, and my
favorite trips are the ones that mix art, coffee, and a bit of adventure—whether that’s hiking along the Portuguese coast or getting lost in a
Venetian back alley with my family!
