Several organizations in Washington state are dedicated to providing
resources for people living with disabilities, including those listed
here.
Washington State Developmental Disabilities Council
The
Washington Developmental Disabilities Council’s
mission is to advocate, promote, and implement policies and practices to
create pathways to meaningful, integrated, and productive lives for people
with intellectual/developmental disabilities. It works to develop policy
recommendations, addresses gaps in services for persons with developmental
disabilities, builds coalitions, tests new services, advocates, hosts events, and strives for better services between public and private sectors.

Washington State Independent Living Council
The primary purpose of
WASILC is to
monitor, review, evaluate and maintain a state plan for independent living. The SPIL establishes goals and benchmarks for the independent living services
provided to all individuals living with disabilities in Washington state.
Washington Talking Book and Braille Library
The
Washington Talking Book & Braille Library
is a program of the Washington State Library. Located in Seattle, the
library provides services statewide, at the library, and by mail, to any
Washington resident unable to read standard print material due to
blindness, visual impairment, deaf-blindness, physical disability (cannot
hold a book or turn pages), or reading disability. For more information:
Advocating for increased availability of context-appropriate
accommodations and providing educational resources are key aspects toward
achieving accessibility for all.
AAMC Report on Accessibility, Inclusion, and Action
In 2018, the Association of American Medical Colleges published a
comprehensive report titled “Accessibility, Inclusion, and Action in Medical Education: Lived
Experiences of Learners and Physicians With Disabilities.” Noting that supporting all qualified learners, regardless of
disability, throughout the medical education continuum is an essential
goal, the publication weaves together major themes from interviews
conducted with 47 students, residents, and physicians with disabilities.
Americans with Disabilities Act and Health Care Access
The Americans with Disabilities Act passed in 1990, providing a
legal framework for people with disabilities to challenge discriminatory
practices in work settings, state and local government, and places of
public use.

Physicians with Disabilities
Physicians with Disabilities
is a group within the Society for Healthcare Professionals with
Disabilities. This group was developed to provide free resources and
support for members. Its mission is to foster an online supportive
community and to freely provide disability-related resources and tools
that are relevant for health care professionals, students, family members,
and friends.
