False Advertising as a Doctor
The WSMA condemns false advertising and misrepresentation of medical
credentials, including the misuse of the title "doctor" by individuals who
are not licensed physicians. (Res C-8, A-23)
The WSMA supports the enforcement of strict regulations and guidelines by
health care organizations to prevent false advertising and
misrepresentation of medical qualifications. (Res C-8, A-23)
The WSMA recognizes that nurses without an MD or DO should not be called
"doctor" in a medical clinic or hospital setting, as it may cause
confusion among patients and compromise effective interdisciplinary
communication. (Res C-8, A-23)
The WSMA encourages public awareness campaigns and educational initiatives
to help patients understand the differences in qualifications and scope of
practice among health care professionals, promoting informed
decision-making and patient safety. (Res C-8, A-23)
