Expanding and Standardizing Parental Leave in Medical School and Residency
The WSMA supports parental leave policies for medical students, residents,
and fellows that are easily accessible, are separate from formal leaves of
absence, and allow for 12 weeks parental leave. (B-4, A-21)
RESOLVED, the WSMA supports further research into investigating parental
leave policies and how they affect medical student, resident, and fellow
well-being, education, and patient care. Targets for intervention include,
but are not limited to policy clarification, improving program and
administrative support, on-site childcare, and consideration of parent
wellness upon return to work. (B-4, A-21)
