"Your WSMA is the physician’s voice in Washington state that matters most." - Donna Smith, MD, WSMA Past President

Who We Are

More than 12,000 members strong, the Washington State Medical Association is the largest physician professional association in Washington, representing physicians, residents, medical students, and physician assistants from nearly all specialties and practice settings throughout the state. The WSMA is the only professional organization that represents the interests and priorities of all physicians in the state.

The WSMA is part of a federation of county and state medical societies and the American Medical Association.

Our Vision

To make Washington the best place to practice medicine and receive care.

Our Mission

Provide strong physician leadership and advocacy to shape the future of medicine and advance quality care for all Washingtonians.

The WSMA Value Proposition for its Members

The WSMA, at its heart, is a physician-driven organization. We believe physician leadership is paramount to good health care policy and patient care. We work to support our members and their teams so that they can thrive professionally and be a strong voice for safe, quality, equitable care.

Strategic Plan

At the start of 2020, our strategic plan focused on advocacy through strong, thoughtful policy, physician-directed quality improvement, physician education and development, and organizational stewardship. Then our community faced a COVID-19 pandemic that rocked our state and our members' ability to practice. As Albert Einstein wrote, "You can't use an old map to explore a new world."

COVID-19 and other recent events highlighting structural racism and health inequities have necessitated that we change our priorities and focus. Our four strategic pillars will remain; however, activities and KPIs will be adjusted, as reflected in the following document:

WSMA 2022-2023 Strategic Plan (updated May 2022).
