Why WSMA: Professional societies like the WSMA give every
physician and physician assistant an opportunity to promote the best in
medical care. Working together we can advocate for improved policies and
procedures to reduce administrative burdens and improve outcomes for our
patients. Being part of a professional society can improve clinician
well-being.
Why serve on WSMA’s Board: I wanted to be able to make
more impact on policies and other areas for the practice of medicine in
Washington state. I have been involved in other professional societies at
both the state and national level and wanted to continue to put my
energies toward improvements in medical care, improvements in the practice
of medicine and reducing unnecessary burdens on clinicians.
Why should physicians lead: Physicians have extensive
training in the health care of our patients. We can see where there are
policies and procedures that can enhance medical care and the practice of
medicine. We can also see the areas where we need to improve our health
care system. Physicians are ultimately responsible for patient care and
safety.
How do you help further WSMA’s vision to make Washington state the best
place to practice medicine and receive care: I have been actively involved in WSMA and WSMA Foundation working to
improve policies and advocate for our patients. I participated on the ad
hoc committee to reduce the burden of prior authorizations. I also serve
on the DEI and the Wellness committee working again to improve
professional fulfillment in Washington state.
Fun fact about you: Wrote a book called “Death of My
Uterus and Other Humorous Events.”
