Prohibiting the Use of Artificial Intelligence
The WSMA opposes the use of artificial intelligence, machine learning systems, or algorithm-based tools to make final determinations regarding prior authorization or coverage of healthcare services without the involvement of a licensed physician or appropriately credentialed health care professional (Res C-17, A-25)
The WSMA supports and advocates for state legislation in Washington to prohibit the use of artificial intelligence in rendering final prior authorization denials without the meaningful and accountable involvement of a licensed physician or appropriately credentialed health care professional, in order to safeguard patient access to timely, clinically appropriate care and uphold the integrity of the physician-patient relationship.
