The WSMA is introducing several process enhancements for the 2026 House of Delegates to improve accessibility, efficiency, and member participation.
Virtual reference committee preliminary reports
After reviewing feedback from delegates, county and specialty societies, and other members, the association has expanded its use of the virtual reference committee. Beginning in 2026, reference committees will use testimony submitted through the virtual platform to prepare preliminary reports before the Annual Meeting of the WSMA House of Delegates. Reports from Reference Committees B and C will be distributed to delegates in advance and presented as consent calendars during Saturday’s in-person sessions. Delegates will continue to have full authority to extract items for discussion, debate, amendment, and voting during both the reference committee sessions and the full House on Sunday. The updated process is intended to make participation more accessible for members who cannot attend in person, give delegates more time to review policy proposals, streamline House proceedings, and provide county and specialty societies with additional time to caucus on preliminary recommendations. Similar approaches have been successfully implemented by other state and national medical associations.
New requirement for resolution submission
In addition, delegates are now required to submit resolutions through a new online submission form, modernizing and simplifying the resolution submission process. Submit your resolution to the WSMA for review using the WSMA Resolution Submittal Form. The deadline for submitting resolutions for consideration by the 2026 House of Delegates is Aug. 27. Key deadlines
Summer 2026 – Virtual reference committee will open to facilitate debate, discussion, and suggested amendments to resolutions.
Aug. 27 – Final deadline for receipt of on-time resolutions. Resolutions must be submitted via the online WSMA Resolution Submittal Form and approved by the WSMA prior to Aug. 27 to be considered on time.
Sept. 4 – The delegate handbook will be available for download on wsma.org.
Sept. 11 – Virtual reference committees will close at noon. Resolution authors will be given an additional 24 hours until noon on Sept. 12 to address issues raised.
Sept. 18 – Preliminary reference committee reports posted to wsma.org, virtual reference committees, and distributed via email.
Sept. 26-27 – 2026 WSMA Annual Meeting at the Historic Davenport in Spokane.
