Gov. Ferguson Signs Menopause Executive Order

This week Gov. Bob Ferguson signed Executive Order 26-01, directing state agencies to implement appropriate accommodations for people experiencing menopause and create guidance and training resources for health care professionals and employers. Recommended accommodations will include telework options, flexible dress codes, and access to cold water and temperature control.

Naomi Busch, MD, WSMA board member and owner of Seattle Menopause, spoke at the signing ceremony, noting that she’s treated over 1,000 patients for menopause, perimenopause, and premenopause since opening her practice in 2023. She expressed excitement about the executive order and noted that more is needed: more time with patients, more examination of how women’s health care services are reimbursed, and more certainty that medications are available to patients on a covered basis.

The Washington State Women’s Commission is overseeing implementation of the executive order and will deliver a report to the governor’s office on its progress and potential next steps by April 30, 2027.
