Medical Examiner Certification Training
The WSMA offers convenient commercial driver's license medical examiner CME training from the comfort of your home or office, at a special discounted rate for our members.
WSMA’s online course is designed to meet the core curriculum requirements for medical examiners as established by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, and will prepare and qualify you to take the National Registry of Certified Medical Examiners certification exam.
Why become certified?
Starting in 2014, drivers who wish to obtain their interstate commercial driver’s license must be examined by a certified health professional listed on the National Registry of Certified Medical Examiners. This requirement supports the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration's goal to improve safety and reduce fatalities on our nation’s highways
To qualify for the National Registry of Certified Medical Examiners, health care professionals must:
- Complete training that is accredited by a nationally recognized medical profession accrediting organization that meets Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration standards.
- Pass a certification exam to demonstrate that the medical examiner is qualified and competent to conduct physical examinations of drivers who wish to obtain their interstate commercial driver’s license.
- Once the exam is passed, register on the National Registry of Certified Medical Examiners.
- Maintain competence by periodic training and testing.
