Initiative 1000 passes, what doctors need to know
Washington has become the second state to legalize physician-assisted suicide. The WSMA encourages all physicians to become familiar with the language of the initiative. The new law goes into effect 120 days after the election (March 2009). Read the initiative in full. [pdf]
The WSMA encourages all patients to make their end of life wishes known. Free materials, such as advance directives, the POLST form and access to the state’s living will register are available via our website.
The Blue Cross Blue Shield Settlement Billing Dispute External Review Board (BDERB) will be operational beginning November 21, 2008. The dispute process is available to MDs and DOs who are class members (and did not opt out) of the Love, et al v. BCBSA, et al Settlement dated April 27, 2007.

To understand the legislative process, the issues and the case we will make to legislators, attend the 2009 WSMA Legislative Summit on Monday, January 26 at the Red Lion Hotel in Olympia. All WSMA members are invited.
WSMA has created a members-only online social network for its physician members.
Enroll now in a new, free service that will improve patient safety and your liability protection.
